Implants

In an age of medical breakthroughs and longer, healthier living, it should not be suprising that there are new techniques used to replace missing teeth. A dental Implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth, bridge, or denture in place. Basically, the dental implant is a titanium screw placed into bone. The implant is titanium, because it is a material that bone will grown into. This process, of your body accepting the implant, is called osseointegration. There are three basic steps of implant treatment.

1. The Prosthodontist determines the appropriate treatment plan for replacing the missing teeth with implants. A surgical guide is fabricated by the Prosthodontist to help in placing the implants at an ideal location. The implants are then placed by an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist. The implants will remain covered underneath the gum for approximately 3 to 6 months, while integration takes place.

2. After integration has taken place, the implants are uncovered and extensions are attached. This completes the foundation on which the replacement teeth will be placed.

3. The final step is the placement of you new teeth by a Prosthodontist. With techniques that ensure optimal size, shape, color and fit, the replacement teeth will blend with your facial characteristics and any remaining natural teeth.
